GWO Certification
GWO, short for Global Wind Organisation, is a nonprofit organization established in 2009 through the collaboration of 14 prominent players in the wind sector. The primary goal behind its formation was to create standardized safety and training protocols for the wind and renewables industry.
Mandatory Certification for Wind Industry Professionals
GWO certification is a mandatory requirement for individuals working in the wind and renewables sector, whether it's onshore or offshore. This certification encompasses the GWO Basic Safety Training (BST), which equips participants with essential skills, including:
Fire Awareness: Training on identifying and responding to fire hazards in wind energy settings.
First Aid: Comprehensive first aid training to handle medical emergencies effectively.
Working at Heights: Safety protocols and practices for tasks involving heights in the wind industry.
Manual Handling: Techniques to safely handle heavy equipment and materials.
GWO Sea Survival Module
For those planning to work in offshore wind environments, an additional GWO Sea Survival Module training is mandatory. This module prepares participants to navigate and respond to offshore emergencies effectively.

HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training)
HUET, short for Helicopter Underwater Escape Training, is an approved program by OPITO, a global, nonprofit organization dedicated to developing skills in the energy industry. HUET is specifically designed for personnel who travel to offshore installations and vessels via helicopters.
The Purpose of HUET
The primary aim of the HUET program is to prepare delegates for safe travel by providing comprehensive training in pre-flight and in-flight requirements. Additionally, it equips participants with essential knowledge and skills to respond effectively during a helicopter emergency, with a particular focus on escaping from a helicopter after ditching.
Comprehensive Training
The training activities included in the HUET program may involve physically demanding and potentially stressful elements. All individuals participating in these activities are required to be fully capable of taking part.
Established in 1992, the International Well Control Forum (IWCF) is a distinguished and independent organization solely dedicated to oil and gas well control training, accreditation, and certification.
Collaboration for Excellence
IWCF collaborates closely with national regulatory bodies and influential industry leaders, including the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP). In response to IOGP's recommendations outlined in Report 476, IWCF has introduced new syllabi for both its Drilling Well Control and Well Intervention Pressure Control programs. These programs are thoughtfully divided into five levels, each designed to equip employees with the precise skill set required for their respective roles.
Global Network of Accredited Centers
IWCF's programs are made accessible through a global network of accredited centers. The assessments for these programs are diligently organized by IWCF and are conducted as closed-book assessments to ensure thorough evaluation.
Join the Advancement
Membership in IWCF is open to any company or individual within the oil and gas industry who is interested in actively contributing to the continuous development of well control knowledge and skills. To apply for membership, visit the official IWCF website: IWCF Membership Application.
STCW BST
The Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW) Convention and Code is a dynamic framework that undergoes continuous updates and amendments to align with the evolving needs of the maritime industry.
Mandatory Safety Training
For officers and ratings serving on all types of ships who carry safety and pollution prevention responsibilities in vessel operations, acquiring Basic Safety Training (BST) is essential. This training encompasses critical areas, including personal survival techniques, basic fire prevention and firefighting, elementary first aid, and personal and social responsibilities. To meet regulatory standards, BST must be documented as completed within five years of assignment to safety and pollution prevention duties.
Broad Applicability
BST isn't just a formality; it's the legal minimum requirement for individuals seeking commercial opportunities aboard vessels exceeding 24 meters in length. This encompasses a wide range of vessels, from superyachts to cruise ships, highlighting its broad relevance and significance in the maritime sector.
